Scam alert - rogue traders in Melton
Trading Standards has received reports of rogue traders in the Melton Mowbray area of the county. Individuals have been leafleting and cold calling residents using aggressive practices requesting they sign paperwork for gardening work.
The traders are advising that there is a special offer of 25% discount for the elderly and for replying to the leaflet drop within 24 hours. They are then telling consumers that they must pay at least 25% regardless of any work being done and would return for the money. These individuals are entering people's houses and pressurising consumers making them feel very intimidated and scared.
The work is often substandard, overpriced or the cost inflates after the trader has started. The advice is not to open the door or to engage in any conversation.
